Here at ALERT, we intentionally incorporate difficulties and challenges into our training. You may ask, “Why would you create difficulties for guys when life is already hard enough?” As I think about how we’ve built our training, this scripture comes to mind: “…we boast in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not put to shame, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:2b-5 LSB, emphasis added)
Undergoing hardship well seems to be a key component in God’s plan for our growth, maturity, long-term good, and for His ultimate glory. We use the guided hardships of ALERT’s training to encourage the men not just to survive the difficulties, but rather to see deeper purposes in every struggle God brings into their lives. May we all allow the hardships we face to shape and mold our character for the glory of God.
