A few years ago I was on a disaster deployment with ALERT and had the opportunity to help an elderly woman by clearing away multiple fallen trees that were covering her entire yard and driveway. It reminded me of the verses in Matthew where Jesus called us to follow his example of service. “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26-28 ESV

At ALERT, one of our goals is to cultivate men with a service mindset; men who see the needs around them and give their lives to meeting them. God has called us to a life of service, a life dedicated to helping others. What a joy it is to be able to serve the King!
