As I’ve watched ALERT men come and go through the years, I have clearly seen the importance of each man (and woman) being in a strong community of people who love Jesus, care for each other, and will help point each other to Jesus. God designed and built just such a community for us, called the Church. Each of you has probably been in a church that has problems, and that’s part of being in community with other humans. It can be easy for us to give up on the Church, in part because we may feel that the challenge of being a part of a group of people with messy lives is not worth the benefits that come with it. But that’s where the transforming power of the gospel comes in. Christ takes the broken, weak, messy lives of His children, and turns them into something beautiful. And He does it in a way that makes it clear that it’s Him, not us that are doing the work.
